They are poor, but they are happy. -----> O
They are poor, and they are happy. -----> X
But（但是）和And（和）都是連接詞，但用法卻不同。《 but 》是用來對比兩件相反的事情或兩個相反的概念；而《 and 》則是用來連接兩件事情或兩個概念，並沒有對比與相反的意思。
This book is funny, but that book is boring.
Kelly is pretty and clever.
The dog is small, but it is strong.
Our house is big and comfortable.
