一些英文字詞必須配合特定的介系詞來表達一定意思，這是英文的慣用法。
made of 用某物料製造 / made by 由某人製造
made in 在某地方製造 / look for 找尋
look after 照顧 / look over 檢查
put on 穿上 / take off 除下
get on 上車 / get off 下車
turn/switch on 開啟 / turn/switch off 關掉
listen to 聽 / good at 擅於
break into 闖入 / wait for 等候某人
afraid of 害怕 / call on 探訪
live on 以.....維生 / at hand 在手中
by air/car 搭飛機、汽車 / by mistake 出錯
on foot 走路 / on fire 發生火警
